We know that homeowners are having to deal with rising energy prices, so it makes sense to try and reduce the central heating costs any way we have the ability to. Take a look at the 5 tips below to help you work out ways to keep costs to a minimum…so you have more money to spend on something else! Even small changes will add up to huge savings over the course of this cold winter!

1. The first good tip is to make sure that the hot water thermostat is reduced. Of course, use your own judgement, but you’ll probably find that you don’t need to go below 120 degrees with the thermostat temperature.

2. While you’re downstairs, make sure you have clean filters for your central air-heating unit. A dirty and clogged filter will force your unit to work much harder and stay on longer as it struggles to penetrate anything through the central heating system.

3. Check your air ducts for gaps, leaks or disconnects. It is true when people say that any disconnection problems or suchlike could be adding up to 25% to your energy bill, so you need to make sure all outlets are sealed. Its fine if you don’t trust yourself to do this though, because the central heating experts can come over and sort it for you. This expert can also clean your ducts for added efficiency.

4. Just by turning the thermostat down it can knock quite a bit of money off your energy bills. Believe me, this really adds up. The monthly bill will reflect all the changes you have made, and you can feel confident that you have done the right thing.

5. While we’re on the subject of thermostats, think about replacing yours if it isn’t programmable. A programmable thermostat is definitely the way forward and it grants homeowners to manage the overall temperature in the home, so energy is used efficiently. So, if it’s a cold winter morning, you can program the central heating to come on an hour before you wake up, which will make getting out of bed on a freezing cold day just that little bit cosier. These aren’t too pricey and are simple to install and configure yourself.

Just by spending some time reading these tips and deciding to take notice could make all the difference to your central heating bills. You can get most of them done in just one day, but the payoff will last for as long as you live there! Now roll up your sleeves follow these tips and start saving money on your heating costs!
